Day 1 music effecting compass

One of the first things you need to do to explain your investment to iphone touting colleagues show them onecooltrickyouknow. For me that was the streetview app. (I like to spend my time learning the new system.) Compass mode for this was a bit unpredictable and I realise that this was because I was playing music out of the onboard speaker at the same time, believe it or not the phone contains a real compass and the speaker was effecting this. Streetview was in essence being controlled by the music!

Not spent much time researching but found on Google deleted websites mentioning a vulnerability of the phone to magnetic catches on cases. Even more worrying was the fact that t-mobile use an neodymium magnet on the cardboard box it comes in. Apparently strong magnets not only send the compass wayward but can also fuck it up permanently. There is also GPS on the phone but some features must call on the magnet and whilst streetview is something i don't want to loose, future apps may call on it even further (anybody 'Run Zombie'?). I wonder if TomToms have a similar Achilles heel as as I work out GPS cannot workout orientation only position.

I read this from other forums, and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Supposedly, cases with magnets in them, can mess up your compass. Thought I share with everyone. Please post if you had and issues with your magnetic cases.

Heres where I got the info. from
